What Do I Do If I Damage My Dentures?
If your dentures get damaged or broken, there is no cause for alarm. Repairing dentures is easier than you imagine. What matters most is that you reach out for help without delay.
At Alencar Family Dentistry, we can examine your dentures, decide if repairs are possible, and get to work on restoring your prosthetic teeth and their functionality.
What Needs to Be Done In Case of Damage to Dentures?
While you may know how to care for them, you most likely don’t know how to repair dentures. However, accidents do happen.
If your dentures have incurred damage, here is what you can do:
- Stay Calm and Call the Dentist
Broken dentures are considered a dental emergency. The best course of action is to call the dentist immediately and explain what the damage is.
At Alencar Family Dentistry, we will determine how severe the damage to the dentures is and what to do next. Some repairs like a simple crack, for example, can be quickly cemented. Others might require the dentures to be sent to a dental lab for repairs or replaced entirely.
- Home Care for Broken Dentures
There are some simple actions that patients can take at home to help rectify damage to dentures. If the dentures have come undone, it is essential to gather up all of the missing pieces. This includes broken teeth and parts of the acrylic base.
Next, you should bring all of them to our dental office.
In some situations, the dentures can still be worn. If this is the case, the patient can put dental wax on any sharp edges to avoid cuts in the mouth and then contact the dentist.
- Denture Repair Options
The extent and cause of the breakage will determine whether a denture can be repaired. In many cases, the denture can be repaired in the course of one visit. In other cases, it might take several days.
If this happens, Dr. O at Alencar Family Dentistry will discuss with you about replacement or temporary solutions.
If you have damaged your dentures and need them to be repaired, call (757) 546-0301 to schedule an appointment with Alencar Family Dentistry, and we’ll be happy to help you repair or replace them.
